Days of Desire, Nights of Rejuvination
There are those days we feel wanton, wondering even, what would be a better life than the one we live now. Would we need more money, more time, more freedom? What is freedom? Can freedom truly exist in a wanton, desirous state?
Freedom begins when we embark on a course of self discovery. We need to discover who we really are before we can quench our unspoken desires. We may have once planned a course, but that course has run emotionally dry. We might feel our journey has stalled, leaving nothing more than bills to pay and schedules to keep; we virtually loose our spiritual will to live. We find ourselves spending our days merely going through the motions; asking ourselves, "have I ceased to exist?"
What is a regenerative plan? How can we formulate new options for greater happiness in our lives? Can we afford it, how do we even begin? What will happen to our personal relationships, or, would it affect our so called security? Can we be so brave? How much courage would it take?
To begin a plan of regeneration, we need not abandon all that we own or make radical life changes in a short period of time. Regeneration of the spirit begins with a better use of our free time. Rather than merely using our weekends to recover from our stressful week, we need to seek out an activity, even if it is just one, that will set us on our way to renew or pehaps eventually alter our life's course.
A dear friend of mine recently attended a Harvest Gourd Show. This may seem like something of complete disinterest to many of us, or even bizarre. However, I'm sure the colors of natures rainbow were present in full force, inspiring hope for true freedom in my friend's soul and ingniting her dormant creativity and talent. One day soon, her life will become as beautiful and diverse as the very gourds she admired and she will give much peace to our world in the form of creative treasures untold.
There is an interest simmering in the back burner of everyone's mind. A small, nagging, nearly inaudible reminder that someday I will do this, or see that... or make my way to a particular destination. It is time to bring that someday into our present, even if schedules must be rearranged. If we have become slaves to our schedules, little league games and other children's activities, we stand to entrap our children within the very same box we ourselves would like to escape.
There is nothing wrong with detouring from the routine family schedule to go in an exiting new direction. There is no harm in providing for rejuvenative detours every other month or so, on a weekend. It is responsible to be creative; to take the time and seek out a new activity, or an old one - badly in need of revival. These do not have to be expensive stayovers, but day trips will suffice. You will be learning to incorporate freedom into your life while teaching your children these skills. Freedom will release our spirits if we can merely find the courage to embark on uncharted waters from time to time. Freedom will grow and blossom in our lives as we take simple steps to ensure our creativity is never extinguished.
One time I invited an accountant along my usual group of out-door-sy friends for a camping trip, well, Ok, he was a "suit," a city boy. I thought he might be bored or disinterested with the crude tents and cooking provisions. As we sat around the campfire one morning following a night of steady rain, sooty and muddy, he stared off into space and told me he hasn't been so relaxed in years; he further admitted that he never would have believed, doing pretty much nothing but existing in the woods, could be so condusive to healing his otherwise frazzled mentality.
Another dear friend of mine suffered from a sinus infection and went to rent a movie. She came across a work produced over a decade ago, and chose that movie, rather than looking through the showcase of newly released blockbuster hits. Now she finds herself poised to embark on one of the greatest adventures of her life, completely inspired by her cinematic find; a work that she believes was produced just for her even though she found it gathering dust in the cavern of less popular titles.
I would invite everyone here to take a trip to anywhere... a paranormal hotspot, an antique store, a thrift store, a flea market, a craft show, an antique train ride, a hot balloon ride, etc. Anywhere the budget can withstand that perhaps you might not ordinarily go. Then, I want you to post how the expidition made you feel. Hopefully many of you will report an increase in the creative arenas of your lives..... Or even if it just made it easier to drive to work the following Monday morning.
Sincerely, KarenESP:)
